The bent wave paths can be explained if the core is composed of material that is different from the overlying mantle. The P waves bend around the core in a similar way to sound waves being bent around the corner of a building. The core, with its vibration causes an increase in waves. The shaking elevates the P wavers, also known as the sound waves. Further from the epicenter, the p waves are slower.
They go faster through the inner core than the liquid outer core.
Primary Waves(P-Waves)
P waves are pressure waves that are the inital set of waves produced by an earthquake. Typical speeds are 330 m/s in air, 1450 m/s in water and about 5000 m/s in Granite.
In shadow zone, seismograph does not record signals. For P-wave it is b/w 104-145 degress.These earthquake waves exhibit same properties as other waves like reflection, refraction etc.As core has denser matter so P-waves will bend inward and hences they will form a shadow zone. S-waves don't pass through liquid phase, core. So, shadow zone is larger here.

There are two types of waves. There are S waves (sheer waves) and P waves (compressional waves). The S waves won't travel through the outer core because it's a liquid, but the P waves will go through it and continue going through the inner core as well.
This is caused by the density variations in the earth which cause the velocity of seismic waves to change as they move between them which in turn causes refraction of the waves. Further to this, the earth's outer core is a liquid which prevents seismic S-waves from travelling through it. This leads to a zone on the opposite side of the earth from an earthquake where S-waves are not detected.
