Well no bear is harmless. Yes, they are more used to humans then polar, grizzly, kodiak or sloth bears but any type of animal will attack if provoked. So no, a panda is not harmless and will attack or even kill someone or something if it feels threatened, or if it is defending itself or its children. Many people assume pandas are harmless, but they are not, and one should interact with a panda just like they would any other type of bear, with extreme precaution.

Yes and no.

Tame and captive pandas may allow humans to approach them and, sometimes, touch them, particularly the conservation scientists who are looking after them.

However, a panda, if it needs to be, is extremely deadly. If you pose a threat to a baby panda, the mother will have absolutely no problem breaking your neck in a single swipe of her paw.

Pandas, like all species of bear, appear to be slow and clumsy, but they are actually twice as strong and nearly twice as fast as a human.

I'm not really sure what you mean by gentle. Towards humans they can get a bit ferocious and will kill.

No, in the wild pandas prefer to avoid humans. If they are irritated they may lash out at the intruder.
