Some parents have severe ego problems and are obsessed with always having to be right, no matter what. Very often, children of such parents stop talking to them altogether when they reach adulthood.

I think parents can become very angry when their children won't listen, but to actually kill a child would not be something a normally functioning person would do. Why they get angry is because a good parent will try to prevent a child from doing things that are not in their best interests. Sometimes, the child doesn't agree or believes they can decide for themselves what is best. And that is when sparks fly.
