Smokers don't suffer from anything but mental withdrawal when they quit smoking - their bodies crave nicotine but it's mostly just craving. They aren't going to get sick or die or anything. They just get grouchy and want to smoke.

When quitting smoking, many people get sick on and off for a year or so. Asthmatics can sometimes experience much more lung problems during the year after quitting smoking. I had pneumonia twice after quitting smoking. Other considerations involve the severity of asthma and the amount of smoking. Someone with very mild asthma who is a light smoker may not suffer many consequences. As a severe asthmatic who was a heavy smoker, I suffered more consequences. Smoking is not good for you but quitting is a personal decision that only the smoker can make. When health professionals harass smokers it often makes them want to smoke more. Stress also contributes to asthma. Take it easy on yourself and do your best.
