Filipinos are Asian. Filipinos have very little ties with the Polynesians. The only ties the two groups have are: Austronesian language and ancient Austronesian DNA.

According to the "Out of Taiwan" theory, ancient Taiwanese aborigines sailed south to the Philippines then to Malaysia-Indonesia then they mixed with some Melanesians of New Guinea which resulted in creating the Polynesians which then went on to populate the uninhabited islands of the south Pacific including Hawaii and New Zealand.

Filipinos on the other hand are predominantly Austronesian in ancestry and their closest genetical relatives are the Taiwanese Aboriginals (who are not Han Chinese by the way, they lived in Taiwan several millenniums before immigrants from China came) and to a lesser extent, the people of Malaysia and western/central Indonesia and Southern China, all groups that are considered Asian.
