My 14 year old son had one of these necklaces, wore it in the shower for months, and it ended up smelling really sour. I tried soaking it in vinegar/washing in a bleach warm water wash, and air drying it. It still smelled sour...we ended up throwing it away.

Not really. If you wear them while getting wet they start to sag don't work as well and soemtimes break in half.
