When using Relative Atomic Mass (Mr), a proton weighs the same as a neutron.

This is rounded to the nearest whole number, however.

The actual weight of a proton is 1.0073 amu.

The actual weight of a neutron is 1.0087 amu.

As you can see the neutron actually has slightly more mass (weight) than a proton has.

When using figures to calculate Mr, however, as in most periodic tables, the mass of protons and neutrons is both 1.

No, although both of them are located in the nucleus of the atom, a proton is positively charged while a neutron has no charge. Furthermore, the number of protons in atoms of an element are fixed, i.e. all atoms of a particular element will have the same number of protons. On the other hand, the number of neutrons per atom may vary depending on the isotope.

Protons and neutrons aren't the same, but they do share some similarities. For instance, they both have roughly the same mass and they're both comprised of three quarks. Additionally, they both can be found within the nucleus of an atom.

Neutrons have a neutral charge so there are an arbitrary number of them the number of protons (which have a positive charge) equals the number of electrons (with a negative charge)

No protons and neutrons are not the same. The reason why they are not the same is because protons positive charged atoms and neutrons are negetive.

Which pair below describes isotopes of the same element Aan atom with 6 protons and 8 neutrons - an atom with 8 protons an 6 neutrons Ban atom with 6 protons and 6 neutrons - an atom with 6 p?

The pair below that describes isotopes of the same element is B, an atom with 6 protons and 6 neutrons-an atom with 6 protons. It is not A, an atom with 6 protons and 8 neutrons- an atom with 8 protons and 6 neutrons. Isotopes of the same element have the same number of protons and electrons, which is the atomic number of the element.

What two subatomic particles comprise the nucleus of a atom?

the you and the stupid! oh wait that is the same thing!

Do isotopes of carbon have the same number of neutrons and different numbers of protons?

No, it is just the other way around! All isotopes of one particular element have the same number of protons (specific for that element) but are differing in neutron number.Example:Uranium has 92 protons (same as atomic number),butisotope U(235) has 143 neutrons and 92 protons (143+92=235)andisotope U(238) has 146 neutrons and 92 protons (146+92=238).

If scientists have determined that a neutral atom of rubidium has an atomic number of 37 and a mass number of 85 how many protons neutrons and electrons does the atom have?

Rubidium's atomic number is 37 and atomic number is the same as the protons (37 protons) Protons equal electrons so there is the same number of protons and electrons (37 electrons). The atomic mass of this element is About 85, and protons and neutrons weigh about 1 so you can subtract 37 from 85 to get and 48 neutrons. 37 protons, 37 electrons and 48 neutrons.

Two isotopes of the same element have the same number of what?

They have the same number of protons and different number of neutrons.

Do neutrons weigh as much as protons?

Yes.

What is atoms of one element that posses a different number of neutrons?

These are termed isotopes. They have the same atomic number i.e the same number of protons and therefore the same chemistry but have differemt mass from the most commonly occurring isotope. Neutrons weigh roughly the same as protons.

Do periods on the periodic table the same protons and neutrons?

Periods neither have same protons nor neutrons. They have same shells.

Which two particles have roughly the same mass?

Protons and neutrons have almost the same mass.

How is the mass number determine?

the mass number is determined on the number of protons and neutrons in the nucleus of the atom.

What element has the same number of neutrons and protons?

Atoms having the same number of protons and neutrons make up the same element.

Where does the weight of the nucleus mostly come from?

The nucleus is made up of protons and neutrons. Most of the elements with low atomic numbers are equally protons and neutrons. However, as elements get heavier they will have more neutrons than protons, and since each weigh the same amount (1 atomic mass unit) these nuclei will get most of their weight from the neutrons.

What are elements having same number of protons and neutrons called as?

Carbon Number of Protons/Electrons: 6 Number of Neutrons: 6

What is an atom that differs from other atoms of the same element by the same number of neutrons in its nucleus?

It is called an Isotope if you're looking for a quick answer. But to go more in depth you need a bit of background knowledge: An element is determined by the number of protons it has in its nucleus. For example Carbon has 6 protons. Only atoms of carbon will have 6 protons. Atomic mass is measured by the number of protons and neutrons which weigh the same amount. Scientists use a unit called AMU or Atomic Mass Unit which is the equivalent to the weight of 1 proton or 1 neutron. The definition of an isotope is an element with the same number of protons as another, but a different number of neutrons. Here's an example: Carbon-12 and Carbon-14 are two naturally occurring isotopes of Carbon. Both have 6 protons. The numbers stand for the atomic mass of that isotope. Because we know there are 6 protons in the atom, and that protons and neutrons weigh the same amount, we can determine the number of neutrons. 12 (combined neutrons and protons) - 6 (known number of protons) = 6 neutrons The same can be done with the other atom 14-6 is 8 neutrons. Therefore we know that isotopes are the atoms of the same element, with different atomic mass, which is caused by a higher or lower amount of neutrons

Within an atom protons and neutrons are found in the?

Protons are found in nucleus, as neutrons are also.
