People are usually happy to find out that their ancestors were famous, rich, royalty, or known for some heroic activity.

Because they prove you don't need to be rich to be happy ! Rich people become depressed or sad when they lose their 'fortune' and have to live on a small budget. Poor people have always lives on a small budget - and therefore don't know what it's like to lose everything, as they never had it to lose in the first place.
