Sponges do not have chlorophyl, therefore they are not able to engage in photosynthesis. They have a symbiotic relationship with algae, using the algae for food, and the algae has a "home".

∙ 14y agoYes. Like all animals, sponge is a consumer. Sponge is a stationary animal that cling to rocks and filter feed by sucking the water in and taking the nutrients from that water out.
