Collies and Shelties are very different!!! I have a collie and a sheltie. Collies are very smart as well as shelties. So make sure you want a dog who wants a job or you have an active family.

Our Sheltie is very skiddish unless she is with our collie. She has a temper much different then all the collies we have had. She will snap if she gets too tired. If you have little kids I would not recommend a sheltie. However, if you have an older family they make a great family pet.

Collies are extremely intelligent so beware. Some of them are very cuddly and other are not. But all the collies I have had (4) have been very sweet tempered. They would never dream of hurting someone or any other dog.

I hope this was helpful!

It depends. Shelties are smaller and not as active. also, they normally have longer hair. Collies require lots of running and playing and they are a larger dog. you can get one with short or long hair. If you do not have a big backyard, do not get a collie.

Although the rough Collie played a part in the development of the Shetland Sheepdog breed, they are distinctly different breeds with different characteristics.

The differences in structure between the two have been compared to the differences between a pony and a horse. If a Shetland Sheepdog were the same size as a Collie, it would be a much stockier dog with heavier bone.

The head of the Shetland Sheepdog is comparitively shorter and wider in the back, the eye is a bit larger and there is usually a distinct "stop" between the head and the muzzle when viewed from the side.

In personality, most Collies are more sedate and laid back than Shetland Sheepdogs, most of which are high-energy dogs.

NO, collies and shelties are not the same because a collie is much bigger than a sheltie and not as wild. and shelties are small and don't grow to be very big dogs, and they are very energetic. ***Second answer: When I was younger, my family had a Collie/Sheltie mix. A Collie is much larger in size. A Sheltie, AKA Shetland Sheepdog, is a much smaller version..Very similar in looks and both dogs are in the herding group.

Yes, they are both from the same dog family(herding group) and they look the same . The only thing that is different is that collies are a lot bigger than shelties. I hoped this helped!

What is a minuature Shetland Sheepdog?

I dont really think this answer is best, but my shetland sheepdog is mixed with a Pomeranian, so that makes him a little smaller than other shetlands. When mixed with a Pomeranian, his snout is shorter and his tail curls up. He is very lovable, and my fav dog. :) Answered by davidarchuletfan101 I think maybe you are thinking of the fact that Shetland Sheepdogs are sometimes called miniature collies. This is because they look like rough collies--Lassie-type collies--but are smaller. Shetland Sheepdogs originated in the Shetland Islands north of Scotland. They are small enough already--no one I have heard of is breeding a miniature form of Shetland Sheepdog.

Nope, not at all. They are in fact the 5th Smartest Dog Breed in the whole entire world. They are fast, quick, and have better herding skills then border collies. Border Collies are ranked #1, but the Sheltie honestly is easier trained, and less annoying and hyper. ;)
