White surfaces reflect infrared radiation (which includes light and heat), while darker/blacker surfaces absorbinfrared radiation. As a result, lighter/whiter surfaces will be cooler because they reflect heat, and darker/blacker surfaces will be warmer because they absorb heat. It is a good emitter, as you can not have a good absorber, which isn't a good emitter. Dark, Matt surfaces are good emitters and absorbers e.g. a saucepan.

Black surfaces with large area absorb heat best (a powder for example that is black).
