Yes, I have had a 2005 Ford Focus as my first car, and it still runs good. The only thing that ever went wrong with it is the A/C going out and it needed to be realigned. I now have over 75,000 miles on it (plus, I bought it used) and it still goes strong. Not to mention, it has a lot of "get up and go" for an older 4-cylinder model...and it doesn't look that bad, especially if you have some extra money to add a body kit or a nice exhaust system. It can make a sweet rally car for anyone who has the money! In my opinion, it probably isn't as reliable as some of your foreign compact cars such as the Civic, but Fords are like four times cheaper to fix because of the cost of foreign parts. Also, you can find a used Focus for way cheaper than you can many compact cars that are not as reliable. So if you need something cheap, cheap to fix, reliable, and with good gas mileage, then I would say that the Focus would be a good choice!
