Almost.
The Iroquois were a confederation of 5 tribes (later 6); initially the Onondagas, Cayugas, Senecas, Mohawks and Oneidas, they were later joined by the Tuscaroras.
This league of tribes was one of the most powerful groups of people in North America, defeating and often absorbing the people of many of the neighbouring tribes.
So there is no such thing as the Iroquois tribe; it is the name of a league of allied tribes.
Iroquois Indians
The Iroquois spoke six different languages, including Onondaga, Mohawk, Seneca, Cayuga, Oneida and Tuscarora.
The Mohawk Indians were part of the Iroquois confederacy and lived in upstate New York and eastern Ontario. They called themselves Kanien'keha:ka which meant "People of the Place of Flint" referring to the flint they used for arrows. It was the English version of an Algonquian name that lead them to be called Mohawk which meant "eaters of flesh" or "man-eaters". By the way, the Algonguians were enemies of the Mohawk.
Iroquois Indians are the original residents of what is now New York state. They consist of six different tribes: the Cayuga, Mohawk, Oneida, Onondaga, Seneca, and the Tuscarora Indians.

The term "Iroquois" refers to an alliance of related tribes that first happened some time during the 1500s. So in the year 1500 there were no Iroquois, only those separate tribes: the Oneida, Onondaga, Seneca, Cayuga and Mohawk.
