There is only one race, homo sapiens, human beings. Jews are people who belong to the religion of Judaism.

As for Jews supposedly having similar physical and genetic characteristics, this could not be further from the truth. Jews have always been a diverse group of people starting with the Israelites leaving Egypt. Today, there are Jews of every colour and appearance and this has been true for well over a thousand years.

Please note that according to Jewish law, any person born to a Jewish woman is a Jew, regardless of the father's religion. Also, anyone who converts to Judaism, following Jewish law, is considered a Jew as if born one. Although most Reform communities consider a child born to a Jewish man and a non-Jewish women but is raised as a Jew to be Jewish, Jewish law does not support this. According to Jewish law, a child born to a Jewish man and a non-Jewish woman is not a Jew unless he or she converts to Judaism.
