The mountains that run up California are not called the coastal mountains or the Rocky mountains, they are called the Sierra Nevada mountain range

There are no Rocky Mountains in CA - they run from British Columbia down through Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, and New Mexico.

The Sierra Nevada mountain range extends up CA as far as northern CA then becomes the Cascade mountains up through Oregon, WA, and British Columbia.
