The medical root word 'coxa' refers to the hip (Latin).
Ilium. The coxa has tree main bones: Ilium, the largest, Ishium and the Pubis which all connect together.
Anatomically speaking the two are not related. While the former lies in the thorax, the latter is in the abdomen. But the heart can be considered superior to the liver, with diaphragm and other structures in between.
The coxa refers to the hip bone or hip joint. The pelvis is the entire ring of bones around the base of abdomen.
The ischium is an irregular bone located in the pelvis.
Each of the bee's legs has five separate parts, the coxa, trochanter, femur, tibia and tarsus. Joints separate each of these parts, so each leg has five joints including the one connecting the leg to the thorax.
