Predators play a role in a balanced ecology. Top level predators such as sharks eat mid level predators such as groupers. Groupers eat other fish, that eat other fish, and so on. Remove top level predators, and you will have more mid level predators. The ecology shifts. Right now, the oceans have a great abundance of jellyfish, which are responsible for vastly more human deaths than sharks are. So things are not always as they appear. It is not the biggest, meanest fish that we need to worry about, it is the poisonous stinging tentacles of the delicate blobs of jelly, that don't even have a skeleton or teeth of any kind.
