Jim Abbot was a famous disabled Major League Baseball player. He pitched for the California Angels, New York Yankees, Chicago White Sox, and Milwaukee Brewers from 1989-1998. He was born without his right hand. He would pitch with his left hand and in one fluid motion transfer his glove onto his left hand after releasing the pitch. He is now retired and tours the country as a motivational speaker.
In the Italian pro league players are payed just enough to get by (without any sponsership deals) your looking at about the equivelent of €600- so about £400- a week. Poor pay compared to some other well known sports without naming any names, especially considering the demand on a player being much larger, some would say, than in these other sports.
There is no specific collective noun for sports, however, any appropriate noun that suits the situation will do. Some examples are a field of sports, an arena of sports, a venue of sports, etc.
Well like any other normal people Ball, it was just played different in our sports similar to the US
He had physical deformities but I can't recall any official source saying he was mentally disabled. His mother, Pamela was very protective of him though, and never allowed him to go to school and socialize, so he probably didn't understand most things anyway from lack of schooling.
