It's an interesting puzzle; the math of the universe seems to work better if there are 12 dimensions. We do not know - perhaps we CANNOT know - what those other dimensions are, or what they are like.We don't even know if they are "real" in any sense of the word, or as "imaginary" as imaginary numbers.
