1. Vesuvius- it killed many people around modern day Naples, or Roman Pompeii and Herculaneum with its pyroclastic flow. Hence, volcanoes that are likely to cause one of the flows if called a versuvian volcano.2. Etna- this is most famous because of an awesome eruption in early Roman days, it dwarfs most of the island of Sicily. The roman god Vulcan was named after the unpredictability of the mountain.3. Mt. Stromboli- For at least the last 20,000 years, the same pattern of eruption has been maintained, in which explosions occurred at the summit craters with mild to moderate eruptions of incandescent volcanic bombs at intervals ranging from minutes to hours. The three main volcanoes in Italy are Mt. Vesuvius, Mt. Etna and Mt. Stromboli which is in Sicily.
Mount Vesuvius has actually erupted multiple times since the eruption in 79 AD, though not nearly as catastrophically. The last eruption was in 1944. It is difficult to say for the entire lifetime of the volcano as Vesuvius has been erupting since before historic times. Geological analysis may find evidence of major eruptions, but smaller eruptions are harder to find and even early historical records are incomplete. The longest known period of inactivity was one of about 300 years, which ended with the eruption that destroyed Pompeii.
basically it is that they need to get the prediction very good and early because it will take a very long time to evacuate all of Naples. if you have any probs email me at: billybob@hotmail.co.uk ! :)
Mount vesuvius last erupted in March, 1944AD. 79The eruption of Vesuvius in March 1944 was the last eruption. Since then the volcano has been in a quiescent stage without any major sign of activity.Vesuvius has erupted about three dozen times since 79 A.D., most recently from 1913-1944. The 1913-1944 eruption is thought to be the end of an eruptive cycle that began in 1631.
Mount Vesuvius has erupted many, many times throughout history. The most famous eruption was in AD79, when the towns of Pompeii and Herculaneum were completely obliterated, while the most recent occurred in March 1944, when a number of small villages were totally destroyed.
the big other wise known as huge eruption of mt Vesuvius was in the 1850s the early 1850s
Mount Vesuvius is an active volcano located in the Gulf of Naples Italy. It is well known for its eruption in 79 A.D. which destroyed the Roman cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum. The eruption is believed to have occurred in late August or early September 79 A.D. The first signs of the eruption were recorded on August 24 79 A.D. A thick cloud of ash and pumice was observed over the Bay of Naples. The eruption lasted for two days culminating in a massive pyroclastic flow. The pyroclastic flow destroyed everything in its path burying the nearby cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum in ash and pumice. The cities were preserved for centuries providing an invaluable insight into the life of the Roman Empire. Therefore the year that Mount Vesuvius erupted was 79 A.D.

There were human settlements on and near Mount Vesuvius as early as the 19th century B.C. These were destroyed when the volcano erupted in 1800 B.C.

The early clues started years before the major explosion. In fact small eruptions began in 1812,3 years before the disaster.

The signs of an eruption came many weeks before the actual "big bang". The early signs were a drop in the water level and several earth tremors. The signs of an eruption came many weeks before the actual "big bang". The most destructive was probably the eruption of Mount Tambora in 1815. It was the biggest eruption in recorded history and and killed over 90,000 people. The Sulfur Dioxide aerosols blanketed the globe causing a cooling period that resulted in no summer that year. Crops perished and more people died from famine.
Shasta is a dormant volcano in Northern CA. In the area there is also hot springs and mud pots. The last eruption was in the early 1920's.
