I haven't had any problems with my 1995 4.0 L OHV engine with 4R55E automatic transmission - it has had regular oil changes and transmission flushes etc. The only thing I noticed is the 4.0 L OHV engine tends to get carboned up , which in my case caused a " pinging " problem because I was just " putzing " it around like I was 100 years old with bad cataracts
The transmission is bolted to the rear of the engine
Starting with the 2002 Ford Explorer 4 door there is no automatic transmission dipstick
Bolted to the rear of the engine.
A 1999 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer has the 5R55E automatic transmission with the 4.0 liter SOHC , V6 engine , and the 4R70W automatic transmission with the 5.0 liter V8 engine
On my 1995 Ford Explorer with the 4.0 liter OHV , V6 engine , the starter is on the drivers side of the engine , low down , where the transmission is bolted to the engine
On a 1995 Ford Explorer : Looking into the engine compartment from the DRIVERS SIDE ( a flashlight would be helpfull ) the starter is LOW DOWN at the rear of the engine where the automatic transmission is bolted to the rear of the engine
Starting with the 2002 model year , the Ford Explorer four door does not have an automatic transmission fluid dipstick
If you have a 1997 to 1998 Mercury Mountaineer or Ford Explorer with a V8 engine, you will have a 4R70W transmission.
The automatic transmission is an A4LD in a 1991 Ford Explorer
On a 1995 Ford Explorer ( automatic transmission ) You use a funnel and add transmission fluid through the dipstick tube ( it is located in the engine compartment , by the firewall , towards the passenger side of the vehicle , where the transmission is bolted to the rear of the engine )
The automatic transmission fluid dipstick is on the passenger side of the engine by the firewall
On a 1992 Ford Explorer : The automatic transmission fluid dipstick is on the right side ( passenger side ) of the engine , near the firewall ( the manual transmission fluid level is checked at the fill plug on the transmission , underneath the vehicle )
