Most of the residual effects of horses in NYC during the 20th century were good effects. It left the city with a grand history of transportation and wonderful old stables full of great architecture. It also for a few years left the people living in the city a chance to experience horses when they otherwise may not have.Some of the negative effects were a distaste for horses by those who did not understand them and to this day perpetuate a cycle of misunderstanding. It also left those with little horse knowledge the idea that horse drawn vehicles are cruel, which is not true. The biggest drawback was the manure and urine contamination in the sewers and waterways. This has mostly been remedied, but has left a lasting effect on the inner workings of the city.
