Yes there are, but dust mites are not a huge problem in Colorado due to the low humidity. Dust mites can be transported in from other climates in furniture such as sofas and mattresses, and can persist for 2-3 years.

They are more likely to be found in older buildings, and especially in humid areas such as basements or rooms cooled by evaporative coolers. A common source of exposure is renovation in older buildings.
