When the engine is removed from the engine compartment, and detached from the transmission, there are freeze plugs on the back side of the engine. You may be able to just disconnect the engine from the transmission, and loosen the motor mounts and lift the engine partially away to replace the freeze plugs.

Two.
You either have to remove the transmission from engine or vice-versa. The engine block has freeze plugs in rear that rust out through time,( lack of antifreeze makes them rust out faster) try replaceing them with brass freeze plugs, there much better then metal. You will have to remove pressure plate, clutch, & flywheel to access freeze plugs.
You still have to remove the transmission on a van to access the rear freeze plugs.
