Pfft no, its actually really safe, i keep my case open (keeps computer cool) and i do frequently use my internal hdd ports and plug stuff in. I occasionally use my friend's hdd and plug it in to get his stuff, no probs. Unless you're a total retard and manage to directly cause physical harm to the computer there is no freaking problem.....
