No Freemasons are only for men; women do have their own "mason" group.

Correction:

There are Freemason organizations that include women, these lodges are referred to as Co-Masonic lodges. The biggest organization of Co-Masonry is Le Droit Humain.

They are not however, "recognized" by most "mainstream" Grand Lodges.

There are also all-female Masonic Lodges in Britain, but members of these cannot visit all-male lodgesand these lodges cannot be visited by male masons.

Yes, there are Masonic Lodges available for females. Typically Lodges are constituted under a Grand Lodge which adheres to one of the following stances:

  • Masculine Masonry, which admits only men (the vast majority of Lodges fall within this category)
  • Co-Masonry, which admits both men and women
  • Feminine Masonry, which only admits women

An example of Grand Lodge that would admit both men and women is the Supreme Council of American Co-Masonry (www.co-masonry.org).

An example of a Grand Lodge that only admits women is the Women's Grand Lodge of Belgium, which operates in several countries including the United States (www.womenfreemasonsusa.com).

In what is called "regular freemasonry", that is to say the kind of Freemasonry derived from English Masonry and recognized by such mainstream Grand Lodges as the United Grand Lodge of England, women are not permitted to join. This applies to almost all Masonic organizations worldwide.

There are some mixed Masonic groups derived from the French Grand Orient, the most well-known of which is the Droit Humain, but this is still a very small group. There is also a very small mixed group which broke away from the UGLE.

There are also women-only Masonic groups in England such as the Order of Women Freemasons.

But in general, historically, women have not found Freemasonry as attractive or satisfying as men have.

Mainstream lodges do not accept women as Freemasons. The mainstream lodges do, however, have an appendant body called The Order of Eastern Stars (OES) that are comprised of women.

Is the US government supporting masons?

First, let me tell you my opinion about the Masons. Masons are a bunch of smart people who like to talk with the members of their club about things that are important to them. Everything else you hear, is most likely a conspiracy. I am NOT saying that it is impossible for the Masons to have bad things going on in their club, but I find that idea highly unlikely. Now, back to your question, I think that the Masons have some sort of support from the government in some way. There are MANY people in the government who are Masons. 15 of our presidents were Masons.
