I should think above anything we are the greatest danger. for example wild tortoises are taken from the wild and illegal transported and sold as pets
Yes, tortoises are legal pets in the UK, but there are certain species that are protected and require specific permits or licenses to keep. The Hermann's tortoise and the Greek spur-thighed tortoise, for example, require an Article 10 certificate under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES) regulations.
Yes they are! I take mine outside when its nice out and it will run around for an hour
Russian tortoises and hermanns are both good. so are greek.
Pies and Tortoises.
People have tortoises as pets and they lead perfectly normal lives so I don't think there is any supernatural effects.
yes they are very good pets
no tortoises are veryy exspensive
Tortoises drink water.
They can make excellent pets - PROVIDED you do some research into the species ! That way, you know what to look out for in case it gets sick. Also - make sure you can provide a secure enclosure (inside AND outside your house) so that (a) other animals can't interfere with the tortoise and (b) tiny fingers can't get at the animal without supervision (accidents DO happen !)
Turtles and Tortoises have highly similar DNA, as tortoises are a subgroup of turtles.
There are two types of pets that have impressive longevity. Pet tortoises, such as Greek Tortoise (Spur thighed tortoise) or the Egyptian tortoise live until around 50 or more in captivity. There are tortoises that live longer, but they are usually too large for being ideal pets. Some parrot species, if properly cared for, can live as long as natural human lifespan if not longer.
