Assessment of the risks cannot be made categorically. The danger presented by a volcano depends on the size and type of eruptions it produces and how the eruptions may interact with terrain and climate. Large, explosive eruptions tend to be the most dangerous, especially where a wet climate may increase the risk of mudflows.

Similarly, the danger from an earthquake depends on the size and depth of the earthquake, the type of material at the surface, quality of building construction, and whether there is potential for a tsunami. Large, shallow earthquakes tend to be more destructive and areas build on soft sediment are usually worse hit than areas built on bedrock.

Why do earthquakes usually cause more destruction than volcanoes?

are you asking which is more dangerous because if so volcano's are very dangerous but they don't happen as often as earthquake's. earthquakes would be more dangerous because they happen very often tearing down many home and countries also volcano's are pretty bad as well but there aren't very many of them so the answer would be an earth quake.

What is more dangerous a tsunami or earthquake?

Earthquake itself is not dangerous if you know how to response. as long as you are on the right place, for example on an open place or inside seismic resistant buildings, etc you will be fine. Many people killed during earthquake because of panic and do wrong thing. tsunami triggered by underwater earthquake and off course more more more dangerous than earthquake. for example if there is no tsunami in sendai, miyagi, iwate area (march 11, 2011) the people killed will be not so significant. tsunami is the most dangerous natural disaster in the world.

Why are some valcanoes more dangerous than others?

This is mostly based on two factors: Activity: How often and with what intensity the volcano erupts Location: Where the volcano is geographically located If a volcano is very active, but is located in the middle of the ocean, few people are affected by it, so the volcano isn't considered dangerous to society. If it is very active and near civilization, then it's pretty dangerous. if it's not very active and near civilization, you might want to keep an eye out on it. If it's not very active and in the middle of nowhere, it's not particularly dangerous

What is the difference between a 5.0 earthquake and a 6.0 earthquake?

The earthquake magnitude is a measure of the energy released during an earthquake. The scale is logarithmic, such that a magnitude of 6.0 releases about 32 times more energy than a magnitude 5.0 earthquake, and in turn more than 900 times more energy than a magnitude 4.0 earthquake.
