Are westies good pets for children with allergies?

People who are allergic to dogs are allergic to two aspects of the dog: their dander, and their saliva. Though Westies shed very minimally, especially if they are brushed and groomed regularly, if you are seriously allergic to dogs, you might not be able to live with the little bit of dander, and the saliva.

Westies do not tend to trigger allergic reactions in humans because Westies are low-dander dogs with non-shedding coats. So they should be fine for a child with Allergies.

On another note ... young children should always be supervised with any dog, especially small breeds because even the ost well-meaning child can accidently hurt a small-breed dog.

West Highland Terriers are like just about any other dog as far as which ones they get along with. If you expect to simply move a new dog into the house with a Westie, be prepared for a period of acclimation, followed by either canine tolerance or bonding. Reverse the role, and a new Westie puppy will bond with human and other dogs alike. I recommend separate dog carriers for all your dogs. Carriers are great places for Westies as they prefer small, dark places for comfort and safety. Carriers/ cages also give you peace of mind while you are gone.

yes, westies are exellent family pets. i have two children and one of them wanted one but the other didnt, however we all went to the pet shop together, me my two children and my partner and selected one and now none of us regret it in the slightest. however i would recommend getting a female as the males can sometimes be more aggressive towards other dogs. if you are unsure but thinking about getting any dog, especially a westie, i would say just go for it, they are amazing and are also hypoallergenic which is ideal for families with allergies. i hope my advice helps you and i wish you the best of look if you decide to get one(recommended). thank you for taking the time to read this:)
