Although women do not nearly represent 50% of the people in politics, there are many powerful women in politics including Angela Merkel, the Chancellor of Germany, Dilma Rousseff, the President of Brazil, and Hillary Clinton, former US Secretary of State. As of January 2013, there are 20 female senators (20%) and 78 female representatives (18%) in the United States. All of these women have made major impacts in Politics and Government, and women have been making major strides towards gender parity in politics.
