a mailbox is a thing that mailmen put letters in but some people have to go to a local postshop and have a special key to open the little door with their mail inside.

I'm trying to get this answer also, but what I've looked up. You are allowed you just cant put mail in anyone's, which is a federal crime. So for 100% you are allowed to. Just make sure you put something like "Please don't take this". It will help a lot.
