Hi, I have had a previous ectopic and currently want to try for another baby, this is some of the information which was given to me.

"Previous ectopic - about 10-20% of those attempting pregnancy after one ectopic will have another."

"The risk of another ectopic depends on several factors, in particular the type of surgery that has taken place, the presence of any damage to the other tube and whether there were any difficulties conceiving first time around. Studies that compare removing the tube (salpingectomy) with opening it at the time of surgery and removing the pregnancy (salpingostomy) have found that when the other factors above have been controlled for, the risk of repeat ectopic is about 9% if the tube is removed and 12% if the tube is left behind. There is no difference in outcome whether the operation was an open one or key-hole surgery was used (laparoscopy), but recovery is certainly quicker with the key-hole option.s mentioned above, after having an ectopic pregnancy, a woman is at risk of it happening again (though it is more likely that the next pregnancy will be in the right place)."

So I would say be cautious and discuss it with your Dr or Midwife before you try to get pregnant again, they will probably offer you early scanning to try and avert any problems early on in the pregnancy.

Good Luck

How long does the abdominal pain last for if you have a ectopic pregnancy?

The abdominal pain following an ectopic pregnancy is a normal part of the healing process. The length of time the pain last depends on the severity of the ectopic pregnancy, the procedure performed, and how well your body heals.

Is it safe to use abortion pills to end an ectopic pregnancy?

No, it is not safe to use abortion pills if you know that you are at risk for ectopic pregnancy. Because you had a tubal ligation, we know there is scarring in your tubes (Fallopian tubes). That’s probably why your last pregnancy was an ectopic pregnancy. The Fallopian tubes are where a female egg is fertilized with a male sperm. The pregnancy starts to grow and move along the tube to the womb. If your tube is scarred, the early pregnancy can get trapped in the tube. As the pregnancy grows, it can cause the tube to break open. If the tube breaks open, this can cause major bleeding inside you, which is life threatening. You are at risk for another ectopic pregnancy. You should not use the abortion pills on your own until a healthcare provider is sure that the pregnancy is in the womb, not in your tubes. What is done when you have a ectopic pregnancy?

Well there are usually a small handful of possibilities that comes to treating an ectopic pregnancy. One, the ectopic pregnancy dies and the mothers body reabsorbs the egg and at times is never even detected and the woman might have never even known she was pregnant. If you encountered a positive pregnancy test then a later did another one and it came back negative, that could have been a possibility that it was an ectopic pregnancy. Or the other possibility with an ectopic pregnancy is that the tube that is holding the ectopic pregnancy may rupture causing severe abdominal pain and may cause extreme complications and surgery may be needed. If the ectopic pregnancy is detected by a physician, then he/she may prescribe a drug called methotrexate, which is injected into a muscles and ends the pregnancy. If the embryo is small enough doctors can remove the embryo through laparoscopic surgery and can usually save the tube. In this situation, a general anesthetic will be used and you will need to take about a week to recover. * http://www.multikulti.org.uk/en/health/ectopic-pregnancy/ * http://www.babycenter.com/0_ectopic-pregnancy_229.bc?articleId=229&page=4 * http://www.medinfo2004.org/get-to-know-about-ectopic-pregnancy-174/ You will most likely have to undergo minor surgery to remove the ectopic pregnancy or you can be prescribed medication that will end the pregnancy.

Are the pains from an ectopic pregnancy sudden or do they take time?

I had an eptopic pregnancy last year! I did not know that I was pregnant because the results came back negative. I started what I thought was my period and it lasted about 7 days and then the pains started in. That is when I found out it was an eptopic pregnancy from an ultrasound.

After having an ectopic pregnancy during the last month a pregnancy test came just came back positive could this have been because of high hormone levels or is it pregnancy?

I read somewhere that after a miscarriage or abortion, the hcg remains in your blood for 6-8 weeks, so I'd wait before taking another one, or have your doc do a blood test. I had a ectopic pregnancy at the end of Febuary. The doctor should had let you know if your hcg were going downn or still high. I was told to wait at least one period before I try to get pregnant again. If you did wait at least one period you might be pregnant. To be sure I would go get a blood test. It is correct that it may take 6 weeks for HCG to fall back after an ectopic, but you cannot tell if you are pregnant from one level, you need a second check to see if levels are falling. Alternatively, As you had an ectopic pregnancy, it is of course possible that you had an intrauterine pregnancy as well.

Can implantation bleeding occur if it is an ectopic pregnancy?

No Apparently they will raise slightly or even decrease every 48 hours. (e.g Hcg level 2000 could become 1800 in 48 hours in an ectopic)Whereas in a viable interuterine pregnancy the HcG levels will about double in 48 hours. This alone is not used for diagnoses a vaginal scan will also help to identify any mass in the tube. This will be to rule out a miscarriage also.

Is it bad when your unborn child is in your tube?

Yes I'm sorry but that is a ectopic pregnancy and the pregnancy can not last there. When the fetus grow it will break your fallopian tube and then die so you will need an abortion before that happens so they can try to save your tube.
