Depending on your source, either the population of dolphins or porpoises will be greater along the South Carolina coast. Because of the widespread discrepancy, it is safe to assume that there are fairly equal. If you have an equal number of dolphins and porpoises, you are more likely to see dolphins because porpoises tend to stay much further away from human development than dolphins do. However, if you are on a boat away from coast your chance of seeing a porpoise is about the same as a dolphin.
