Armenia has a very long history and due to this I will only point out major events in Armenia. Around 4000 years ago Armenia is founded by many tribes forming together, In 2793 the current capital of Armenia, Yerevan is founded. 301 A.D. Armenians the first to adopt Christianity due to Gregory the Illuminator is locked in a Dungeon for 13 years until he heals the King of Armenia at the time (Drtad III) from this Drtad III makes the official religion Christianity. Making Gregory the Illuminator the First Catholicos of the religion. It was also the first country to recognize Christianity. I beleive in 330 A.D. the Romans then adopt Christianity as well (Constantine ruler of Rome at the time). The teachings of Christianity in Armenia began when two of Jesus's followers Thaddeus and Bartholowmeu which taught the teachings of Jesus to Gentiles of Armenia. One of their students, Gregory. 404 A.D. the Armenian Alphabet is founded by Mesrob Mashdots, at first there were only 36 but the last two letters were added more recently. 451 A.D. Vartanants, which was the defending of the Armenian Homeland against the powerful Persian Empire. The war lasted 31 years and one of the great Generals (Sparabed) of the Armenian Army is Vartan Mamigonian, His father was killed in Persia as well as the King of Armenia Arshag II which were kept in jail (pand) in Persia. During one of the major battles that Armenia won almost killed the Persian King at the time (Vramshahbooh), but a great Armenian man named Trasdamat saved his life. Being granted a wish he asked to see the jailed King of Armenia still kept in the jail. He made sure that the Persian officials including the Persian King was drunk and snuck into the jail cell of Arshag II. The King of Armenia gave his life to end his misery and seeing this act of heroism Trasdamat killed him self as well. 5th century considered a Golden Age (Vosgetar meaning Golden Century). After Ottoman Empire forms absorbing the Armenian Kingdom controlling it for more than 600 years. April 24, 1915 the Armenian Genocide began where thousands of innocent Armenians lost their lives to the Ottoman Turks. about 1.9-2.1 million Armenians died in the Genocide. 1918-1920, the first official republic of Armenia forms (Hanrapetutyun/Republic), but was shortlived due to Red Army sweeping in and taking over the Caucasus to form the former Soviet Union. 71 years later the second republic of Armenia is formed and is still the current republic since 1991 (the dissolving of the Soviet Union).
