Typically.....
1. Attach cross-beams to bed frame ends (what will be the arm-rests when the bed is assembled and used as a couch). Cross-beams are the two long poles with two screw-holes at the end of each. Rotate the cross-beams so that the inside of the angle is facing down (so that the bed frame has a flat surface to rest on when opened). Typically the cross-beams will have small pads of material on the side where the bed frame should rest (top). Screw/bolt these in place.
2. There will be a spring assembly on each frame end to which you will attach the mattress frame directly. The mattress frame is typically in two parts, one side is squared, one side is rounded. Align the two mattress frame parts on the spring assemblies so that the squared ends meet in the middle, rounded parts facing out. Screw/bolt these in place.
3. Done.
