He may have believed slavery was wrong and he wanted to prove that blacks are the same as whites...which i agree, but, that was not what the civil war was about. The civil war was about the southern states trying to break away from the union, (which they should have been able to.), But because of Mr. Lincoln using militarial force, we have no states rights.
Yes, they wanted to include slaves within their population because it would allow more representatives to be able to join Congress and speak the "voice" of the Southern states.
