I got contacts when I was 14 and have been wearing them 30 years
It depends on the type of contacts, and also when you get approval from your parents (or if your old enough to decide yourself.)
It depends if you have the flexiblity to touch your eye. I had that fear for many years and I could not do it until now. I will be 42 in Aug and started wearing them one month before my birthday. I overcame my fear because I wanted to learn how to swim and I am very nearsighted. I won't be able to see anything without a pair of glasses. A few years ago, my glasses broke and I had nothing to back it up. I suffered a day being blind and I did not want to go through that again. Also, the person in charge of filling my glasses prescription told me that my lens will be bigger then my face. NO one will see me since I am a small person. That was when I decided to get contacts and love them.
Check with your optometrist. Most optometrists will not prescribe contacts to people under 14 in the US. Due to the constantly changing shape of the eye before that age, it would seem to be inadvisable to try before that age.
It doesn't really matter because if you are responsible and has good hi-gene then you are good for contacts.
I would say atleast 13 to start wearing them, as your eyes may get damaged as your eyes will not be fully exposed to oxygen, and as this is the 1st generation of people wearing them young then no-one knows what the effects will be!
usually you are supposed to be 13. because by that age eye doctors figure that you can be responsible for contacts and making sure you clean them and wash your hands before putting them in or taking them out. But that's just a guideline i got mine when i was about 11 1/2.
P.S. if you do get contacts, don't give up if you have trouble putting them in or taking them out just take a deep breath and try to relax. if you're not relaxed it will be much more difficult
You can wear contacts at an early age. Parents used to remind you that you have to be a teenager, but the eye can tolerate contacts at an early age.
There really is no age: It depends on the child, the child's visual problems, and the doctor's diagnosis and assessment of the child.
There is a kid in my class who is 11 and has contacts.
I think you can wear them at a mature and responsible age. I got them when I was 13. :)
