A male Basset Hound can breed at about 7-8 months but I would advise against this as you do not yet know if the stud has any problems that you do not want passed on to future generations. My advise is to wait until they are about 2 years old and by that time their adult characteristics will be evident and you will know better if it is responsible to breed him. Most females come into season/heat for the first time at between six months and a year of age. You should NOT breed from her until she has had at least three seasons/heats, however.
Dogs bear their litters roughly 9 weeks after fertilization, although the length of gestation can vary from 59 to 65 days, with 63 days being the average.
Basset hounds have long ears so when they are sniffing the ears whip up the smell toward their noses.
They love long walks and lots of attention.
This is not something that is unique to Basset hounds; there are dogs of all breeds suffer from anxiety separation. If Basset Hounds are alone, how do we know they whine? I think the answer is inconclusive.....
They don't have long legs, their legs are quite short.
In my opinion, basset hounds are really sweet. I have a five year old female basset hound and I love her SO much!
