All auto repairs are governed by what is called flat rate. This is the time allowed by law that a shop can charge as a maximum. These are the times taken by a third party to repair a given part. It is what shops use to quote you a price. So, figure out what is wrong with your car, go on line, find a flat rate chart for your car, multiply that by the hourly rate, factor in parts, always take your own parts if you can. It will save you a bunch, the mechanic will say he won't warranty it, but, take your chances. In the long run, it will pay off. Remember, when flat rating the job, you have to ad in all steps, for example, to r&r a trans., I may have to remove a, say, custom exhaust, so I would have to factor in an r&r exhaust, to the trans., r&r. The book only figures stock applications, as well.
