Alarm goes off for no reason on 2001 Honda Accord?

I had this same problem with my Honda. I figured out through a process of elimination that the door remotes lost part of their signal to turn the alarm off. The solution? Search Wiki for how to reprogram your remote key fob. This will restore the signal coding to properly unlock and turn off your alarm. Just reprogram the remotes and this should solve your problem.

How do you fix instrument panel lights?

Instrument panel lightsThey are on a fuse, however if the fuse goes all the instrument lights quit and usually your dome light. You have to pull the cover off on your panel. Most likely it is Phillips head screws or torx head like a T-20. You pull all those little screws off around the underside of the dash and down around your steering wheel sometimes it may also go around your the bottom side of the steering wheel just above your feet. The light generally just push in place in the socket. Auto zone or maybe even walmart may have the bulbs.

  • for the daytime/night time light problem, it could be something as simple as the dimmer switch. the reason you see the lights during the day is because the lamp switch is off, but once you turn it on, the dimmer may need to be turned up

Honda Accord EX

How do you change the crank sensor on a 96 Chevy Corsica V-6?

there are 2 crank position sensors. first 1 is the 24x located behind harmonic balancer you will need to remove belt 15mm bolt from balancer and balancer pulley. 2 8mm bolts and 1 10mm bolt are behind the balancer 1 13mm bolt is located on from block which you must disconnect. the other is located on the back of block which is the 7x 1 and this is just a 10mm bolt. It will take some playing around to pull this 1 out but it will come out and goes in very easy. before chaning any1 of these disconnect battery. When putting harmonic back on make sure its lined up w/ key hold and that's it all the way on.

Where is the oil dipstick on a 97 Honda accord?

Open the hood and look around. It is right there in front of you on the engine. If you cannot find the dipstick then you need to shut the hood and seek professional help. You have no business under the hood of your Honda.

Wilke339's answer:

If your Accord is 4 cylinder, the oil dipstick probably has a yellow pull ring handle, and is located toward the driver's side of the engine, up high near the top belt pulley.

Which is the most reliable used American car for longevity and is there a site that tells this?

Generally, large-sized cars like the Crown Victoria (edit: discontinued and Canadian made) are the most reliable and smaller cars like the Focus are unreliable as well as unsafe. (Edit: Focus is safe and very reliable) But if you're going for looks and a decent reliability, go with a mid-size like the Fusion or Malibu.

The longest lasting American vehicles are Chevrolet and Ford full sized pickups. They are designed to be maintained and repaired by owners. Cars are designed to be maintained and repaired by dealers. It follows then, that the dealers with the best service department, (at least during warranty) are going to provide the most satisfactory ownership experience. Where I live, Buick has the best dealership. Luckily, they have started making great cars again instead of the marshmallow cars of yesteryear.

The good news is that nearly all new cars will last twice as long with a third less maintenance than cars built just 10 years ago.

How do you reset the maintenance required light after 60000 miles on a 1998 Honda Accord LX 2.2L?

on a 98 accord you push down and hold the odometer reset button, then turn the key to the ON position. After 10-15 seconds the light should turn off.if you need it for a 1997 then listen to them below.

--DudeItsAHonda

You take it to the dealer (or a very knowledgable specialist shop - for a Honda one should be fairly easy to find locally, and have the required servicing done...

At 60,000 miles, many modern cars require replacement of the timing belt. Although the procedure is probably the most costly of the Scheduled Maintenance Items, unlike many more mundane items such as changing the wiper blades, oil, or tires, failure to replace this belt in a timely (pardon the pun) fashion will, in most modern cars, *DESTROY* the engine when (not if---*when*) the timing belt does fail.

Common Parts to Replace a Timing Belt: Timing Belt 3-5 Miscellaneous pulleys Hydraulic belt tensioner assembly and pulley. On some cars, this is a good time to replace the water pump, since you're already pulling the front of the engine that far apart, anyway. Total cost: $600-800 is probably not unreasonable.

Common parts to replace

I'm not entirely sure about the Accord, but this answer works for the same year of Civic, Prelude, and Acura (Honda) Integra. It will probably work for the Accord, too. On the typical Honda gauge layout, there is a small, rectangular, recessed button directly to the left of the "Maintenance Required" light. Using your car key, you can press this button in, which will cause the light to turn green. The maintenance light (at least on my Civic) will come on about every 4000 miles if not reset (for oil changes), and also periodically for other scheduled maintenance.

on the '97 accord in the dash panel layout, near the mileage, is a small black box, your key should fit right into it, push it in and it should go away. you can also look in the owner's manual, it'll say in there. the light usually comes on after so many miles, and most places that aren't the dealer won't know to put the key in there to reset it so it might come on before maintenance is needed.

With the key off, hold down the trip meter reset button. turn the key on and continue holding the reset button in until the maintenance light goes off, about 10 seconds. Source: owners manual.

97 Honda Accord LX

Just push in the black button next to the Maintenance required light after you have changed the oil in all the way and the light will turn green again. Works in mine. No key in the ignition required.

How do you adjust the idle speed on a 1988 Honda Accord?

I know on a 1990 Accord there is a plug over the idle speed adjustment. You can pop it out with a ice pick or small screwdriver then do the adjustment (you don't have to replace it) It is located on the passenger side of the injector housing or control body or whatever! Stand just behind your right front wheel, lean under the hood and you should see it. The plug is about 3/8" diameter.

Confirmed - it works for a 1988 Honda. Thanks.

: That only works on the fuel injected models. The carburated engines are more difficult to adjust.

Where can you obtain an Owner's Manual for a 2001 Honda Accord V6?

For owners manuals and such, consult the manufacturing company. For around $20.00 US I believe that you can purchase a manual for your vehicle and it can be sent directly to your home. Also, you might want to try looking at online auctions, quite often they sell small articles such as manuals/wiring diagrams etc.

You could also try (if in canada) Canadian Tire or any sort of automotive store similar to that. I got my owner's there.

AnswerGo to www.ahm-ownerlink.com, register, and do a search for "owner manual". You can download a manual in PDF format.

Car Stalling Problems

How do you start your car after it stalls in water?

Water Logged Engine?First, Disconnect battery, and dry the engine and vehicle inside and out as completely as possible. Give attention and time for electrical wiring to dry as well. Wet wiring and harnesses can cause new shorts and burnouts.

Then, see if the engine will spin. You may have to remove the fan to access the crank nut. If it does not turn by hand then there may be engine damage due to water will not compress. This is called hydro-locking your engine. If it does turn then "is the starter locked up" Be sure not to over look diagnosis of electrical related issues due to water.

Lastly if its a stick shift have some one pull you in gear, with fresh oil in the engine of course, and try to get the oil pumping again to achieve some compression.

take all spark plugs out turn engine over a few times then try to start may have to change plugs fuel and oil at least check! I have a 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee that wouldn't start after it rained. The problem was simply water getting onto my battery terminals. I bought a new battery and covered the terminals in a waterproof grease. This may help with your situation. Also, check to see if your distributor cap is cracked, I'm not 100% sure about this idea but give it a shot. If you drive through a puddle sometimes water can get your distributor cap wet of even into the car

I drove through a puddle in a 89' Toyota Camiry and had the car die in motion from a distributor cap that FILLED with water. after ensuring that the engine still turns over, The easiest diagnosis for this is to check to see if you still have a "spark". If there is no spark, the first place to try is the distributor cap, then work your way from there. I was lucky. some mopping up and water dispersant (WD-40) and it runs like a top again.

Ethamax is the best choice if you want to remove water out of a fuel tank without paying a mechanic to remove the tank and do the job for you $$$......!

This is not a complete answer.

If your car stalls in water more than 300mm, 12inches deep, it is possible that water will enter your differential. This is because the cold water cools the diff housing and the air inside, and thus will draw water in the breather pipe. You do not want water in your diff. In this case, you should not have your car rope towed, as this may damage the diff. Have it towed on a trailer, and have the diff drained and re-filled with proper oil. How deep the water is makes a difference.

If there is any chance of water in the cylinders. You need to remove the spark plugs. Turning it over with plugs out should blow out most of the water in the cylinders. I have seen engines that have sucked water through the air filter and into the cylinders. When starting was attempted several rods got bent. Some cars take air in close to the head lights. Some even below the head lights

How do you turn off the maintenance required light on a 1999 Honda Accord Sedan?

To reset the MAINTENANCE REQUIRED light:- Have key inserted in ignition but in the OFF or LOCKED position.- Push and hold the trip reset button on the right bottom corner of your gauge clutster. (this is the same button that you use to reset your mileage counter)- Turn key to full ON position and continue holding the button till the light goes off. (at least 10 seconds)

The above is true for Honda accord models upto 2001 and possibly for newer ones too.

Car Smells
Ford Expedition XLT

Why would a car smell like gas while its running?

Smell of GasHere is advice and input:
  • Using a good flashlight start at the tank check the tank and all fuel lines carefully working your way to the filter and on up to the engine. Check the areas directly around the fuel injectors where an o-ring could leak. The fuel may be evaporating quickly, you may want to do this while it is running.
  • I recently had the same problem. It started out with just the smell of gasoline. As time went by, I noticed a leakage. Gas leakage. At first the garage told me it was the fuel sender that needed replacing, after a month or so, it was the gas tank, fuel sender and fuel line - it ended up costing me $600.00 Canadian. Although, I will probably save that much in gas over the next few months. Do you also smell the gas when you get out of the car? If so, you will need to get this taken care of. Eventually you will.
  • Over the period of 3 months, I smelled fuel now and then but blamed it on other cars in front of me. In the third month it happened more often and the "check engine" light came on intermittendly when accelerating or stopping. By the end of month 3, my whole gas tank suddenly emptied itself within 5 minutes. It is no fun to see the gas tank meter go down to zero in a blink, have a baby on board and find yourself way out in the neck of the woods. The fuel line broke above the filter. Don't wait too long.
  • More than likely it will be a cheap, do-it-your-self-fix-it. It could be the fuel pressure regulator.

Plugged, dirty or poorly connected fuel injector; Leaking fuel filter or fuel filter connections; Punctured or damaged fuel tank; Loose or poorly connected fuel pump; Gas in gas can in trunk. = IN ADDITION TO THAT ANSWER, PONDER THIS... CARS HAVE A VACUUM FUEL CANISTER THAT MAY INCORPORATE A FILTER OF ITS OWN. I'M NOT SURE WHAT CONDITION MAKES THIS TANK TAKE ON FUEL (ITS AN OVERFLOW TANK, OF SORTS). HAVE THESE ITEMS CHECKED BY A MECHANIC YOU TRUST. HOPE THIS HELPS ! ! !

if you can smell gas whether the car is running or NOT that means you have a leak in your fuel system if it was not a leak, you would not smell it when not running . first thing is check under vehicle after overnight parking and see if there is fuel on the ground if there is , this will give you a starting point where to look for gas leak

Wheel Alignment and Balancing
VW Touareg
Honda Accord EX

Do you need an alignment with new tires?

Not 100% sure, but if they were different style or brand, I'd say they had to be.

It is always a good idea, however if the old tires wore evenly, the car didn't drift or pull with the new tires, then you could pass on the alignment and keep an eye on the way the wear. Rotate every 5-8000 miles.

As a service center manager, I always suggest an alignment with the purchase of new tires for several reasons. 1. When your vehicle is in alignment you are preventing premature tire wear. This translates to $$ saved in the long run by not having to buy tires as frequently. 2. All vehicles' suspensions wear over a period of time, by having your alignment checked periodically you can prevent a worn part from becoming a broken or failed part. This is a simple safety issue in this regard. (The alignment technician should thoroughly check the suspension BEFORE doing an alignment to spot any conditions/parts that should be addressed.) 3. By keeping your car aligned you can increase your gas mileage and tire life. Last but not least, your mechanic/garage should provide you with a printout showing your alignment specs before AND after any adjustments have been made. Ask your salesperson/technician/manager to explain the printout and how it will affect your vehicle. Most shops will offer not to charge you if no adjustments were needed.

ANSWER: NO! although it is recommended, putting new tires on your vehicle doesn't change the alignment, it will still be out of alignment, or in alignment when you put your new tires on.

If the SRS light is on in your 1996 Honda what does this light mean?

ok, SRS light on, your mechanic is an wrong. If you have any electronic devices in or around your passenger seat, this will set the srs light. should be able to clear codes by re-flashing srs unit or re-initialize the system. if your vehicle has not been in an accident, it is almost certain there is nothing wrong with the srs unit itself. im not saying it couldn't happen, just very unlikely.

My mechanic has pulled the codes and it indicated a new SRS computer is required. Since it was $400 he tried something. He hooked the PGM hand-held computer to the car and re-booted the SRS computer. It worked for 6 months and then it came back on. Another reboot and 2 weeks later it's on again. I don't want to part with the $400+ but I trust he's on the money when he says it needs to be replaced. I am going to look into one more thing with the seat sensor first. I have 157,000 on my 96 Odyssey.

I admire the simplistic logic of the "pulling out the bulb" solution. However, it should be noted that until you reset the code, your airbag will NOT deploy. So, bite the bullet and pay for the code to be reset, or find out how to do it yourself from some motorhead website. It involves jumping out some pins under your dash.

While I am a avid DIYer, Airbag systems are best left to the Pros. That being said, there is a lithium battery inside the airbag computer. For $400, I would look for faulty/cracked solder connections inside the airbag computer and test the little $4 battery. On the Accord there are three impact sensors, one in each floorboard and one in the computer itself (bags wont fire unless two out of three have been tripped). Get the factory service manual (www.helminc.com)and observe ALL safety precautions regarding putting safety jumpers on airbag connectors, etc. Airbag inflators contain rocket fuel and the passenger bag will probably break the windscreen when it fires....

Since the SRS control unit is a computer, it may be sensitive to things like a faulty alternator/voltage regulator, high power radio transmitters, alien spacecraft, etc.

the absolutely first question to ask is if anybody has done any electrical work on the car (aftermarket stereo, alarm, etc). Also, has the car gotten wet inside (flood).

When that light is on, the airbags may NOT deploy in a crash. FIX IT!!! Pulling the bulb out means now the light is not on but the AIRBAGS MAY NOT DEPLOY!
