There are two reason why it isn't updating. The first is your subscription might have ended. The second is AVG can not contact the server to update. Check your internet connection. See if you connections is strong or even there. Start AVG and see if there are any announcements. Antivirus software usually tell you when the subscription has ended.

My suggestion is to put your AVG in auto update mode. Go to control panel and check the auto update box. Have it update daily.
