You must follow your passion. If you have a passion for the field, and recognize the benefit it brings to others as well as yourself, then you must follow that path. Because you already have a bachelor's degree, you will have a number of options to include the following.

* diploma program (typically three years, not recommended for individuals who do not have an already existing degree) * associate degree (two years as a full-time student once the student starts the professional phase of the program) * bachelor's degree (BSN) (four years as a full-time student)

Personally, I do not recommend the diploma program for a number of reasons. Some of the coursework you have already completed will apply toward the RN program. However, the critical science courses are what you will have to concentrate on and do well in. These courses would include:

* human anatomy and physiology I * human anatomy physiology II * microbiology * inorganic, organic and biochemistry

Because of the intensity of the program, I would strongly recommend you complete the science courses before entering the professional phase of the program. When you enter the clinical phase, you want to be able to concentrate on nursing and just nursing. You have an advantage by doing it this way.

Is it true that becoming an RN and then continuing on to get your BA in psych is looked at the same as having a masters in psych?

No. A mater's degree in psychology is a higher level of competence than a bachelor's and nursing has nothing to do with it. To have an R.N. degree and a psych bachelor degree is a really good thing, but it's still not a master's.
