What years did the Taliban rule in Afghanistan?

2015-2041

When did the taliban come into power?

From 1990 to 2001, but they did not control all of the country for the entire time. The US-backed Northern Alliance (aka the United Front in Afghanistan) already controlled a very large area of the northern part of Afghanistan before the Taliban was finally removed removed from power.

What was Ronald Reagan's relationship with the Taliban?

He did not have much contact with them or approve of them. They were not widely known in the US before the US entered into Afghanistan.

What was life like for women before the Taliban came to power in Afghanistan?

Better than AFTER the Taliban took power, but even before then, Afghanistan was a pretty miserable place. Go back to 1978 or so, before the Soviet Union invaded Afghanistan, and you could see Kabul (the capital city) looked prosperous and relatively liberal. Women dressed in European fashions and attended college, and the scenery looked entirely "normal" and European. That was in Kabul; the rural areas hadn't changed all that much for the previous 1500 years.

Is Afghanistan developing or developed country?

Before the 1970s (before the coup and Russian invasion) it was a developing country on it's way to being a developed country. There were fashion shows, pop music, cars, modern buildings, and people going to work in suits and ties. Then the coup happened and then the Russians invaded and forced everyone to give up their religion and conform to communism. Then the US came and gave weapons to everyone and after the two countries destroyed Afghanistan with their fighting, the Taliban was created to get both the US and Russia out of there. Unfortunately the Taliban oppressed their own people. Now the country is really torn up. I would say it is an underdeveloped country now. Here is video of Afghanistan before the US and Russia (1978 and onward) and before the Taliban (late 80's onward) and before the US again (2001).I hope this helps :0)

What caused the US to go to war with Afghanistan?

This was triggered following the terrorist attacks against the World Trade Centre and the Pentagon on 11th September 2001. The government of George W. Bush claimed that it had firm evidence that the then Taliban government of Afghanistan had actively supported the terrorists, with funding, training and logistics support, and was turning their country into a haven for the training, instruction and equipping of Islamic terrorists. A military offensive was begun later the same year to remove the Taliban from power, allegedly to neutralise the terrorist threat that it posed to America. Whilst there was indeed some truth in the claim that the Taliban regime was engaged in supporting terrorism, it was not doing so to anything like the degree that the Bush administration alleged, and was not able to afford to fund large terror campaigns in the way Bush claimed. Many people thus felt that the assault on Aghanistan was mainly a knee-jerk revenge attack against a fundamentalist Islamic country, in revenge for the attacks on New York. The USA went to war with Afghanistan not because we hate Afghanistan. We actually went to war with the Taliban that was (and still is) inside of Afghanistan. Taliban is a political party; USA wants to stop them now before they could possibly become the rulers and completely ruin Afghanistan. The USA is in Afghanistan so we can stabilize Afghanistan.

What is a brief historical perspective on the Afghan War?

Briefly, when Great Britain was the #1 power on earth, the British invaded Afghanistan nine times without success. In 1980 the USSR invaded Afghanistan and fought for ten years before giving up. The USSR was opposed by the Mujahadeen which was supported by the US. One of these resistance groups, the Taliban, took control of Afghanistan after the war and ruled it with one of the most repressive regimes in history, but the Northern Alliance (known in Afghanistan as the United Front) resisted the Tabiban with US support in an eleven-year civil war. The Northern Alliance gained a large part of northern Afghanistan before 2001 when the US finally committed its own forces. Afghanistan is now rebuilding, but the war is not finished there yet.

Does iraq have country called taliban?

No. There are two mistakes in the wording here: (1) The Taliban are not a country and (2) the Taliban are not present in Iraq. What is likely being asked about here is ISIL (Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant) which is a terrorist-militant controlled territory in rebellion against the Iraqi government in Baghdad. For more clarity on these points see below.(1) Taliban are Not a Country: The Taliban are a specific political Islamist Party/Militant Organization. The Taliban has certain political aims: the control of Afghanistan and parts of Pakistan. The Taliban also were able to hold national control in Afghanistan and ruled it according to some of the most barbaric interpretations of Shari'a Law. As a result, they spread out through national channels such as police and justice departments. The Taliban, consequently, has very limited aims that came in direct contravention of American interests only in 2001 when the United States invaded Afghanistan. The Taliban, while supporting Al-Qaeda, were not (prior to 2001) interested in the latter's goal of attacking and Islamicizing the West. They are still opposed to exerting resources to achieve these goals, but do focus their efforts on removing the Northern Alliance government of Afghanistan and leading that country again.(2) Taliban are Not in Iraq: Simply put, the Taliban are a localized group and because their aims are political control in Afghanistan and parts of Pakistan, they are not in Iraq.(3) ISIL in Iraq: ISIL (Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant), known as ad-Dawla al-Eslamiyya al-3iraaq w'ash-Shaam or the acronym Daa3esh in Arabic, is an extremist Sunni Islamist organization which used to have links to al-Qaeda before al-Qaeda condemned them for their barbarity. They are fighting to bring the Sunni majority into power, especially in Sunni majority regions of both Syria and Iraq, and impose a more fundamentalist view on politics. They consider themselves to be fighting the injustices and violence of the current Assad regime and the inequalities of the US-supported Government of Iraq. ISIL is primarily supported and armed by Saudi Arabia, but the US and UK have indirectly given ISIL millions of dollars and equipment since US and UK military vehicles and assets left to the Government of Iraq have fallen into ISIL hands (especially with the fall of Mosul). ISIL controls significant amounts of land in Syria and Iraq and conquered much of its Iraqi territory in June 2014.

Why did America really go to Afghanistan in the first place Was it to catch Osama bin Laden take control of Afghanistan or to help Afghanistan be free again?

BACKGROUND: After the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, President George W. Bush demanded that Afghanistan close down the terrorist training camps run by Al-Qaeda, and give up Osama bin Laden and other leaders of Al-Qaeda so they could be put on trial. The Taliban government of Afghanistan refused. The war in Afghanistan started on October 7, 2001 with an aerial bombing campaign against the Taliban. This helped the organized groups of Afghani people who were already fighting the Taliban. The Taliban was removed from power but is still a strong force in Afghanistan, as of December 2009.TALIBAN: The United States went in response to the September 11th attacks arguing that Osama bin Laden and his group Al-Qaeda were behind the attacks and could be located in Afghanistan. However, according to the Taliban before and after 9/11 Osama bin Laden was no longer in the country since 2000. This is strong to dispute since the U.S. has not been able to track his actions. The campaign was certainly not to free Afghanistan, since the U.S. agreed that the Taliban could remain in power so long as they handed Al-Qaeda figures over. That's the official reason, but, look at the geography of the middle east. Afghanistan is in the middle of the middle east, perfect staging area for invasions into countries such as Iran.Money has ruined this world, it has caused such a disaster and just to let you know that the War in Afghanistan will be lost by America soon, the real reason America invades any countries in the Middle East is because of OIL, that is why they have a problem with Iran using Nuclear technology because if Iran develops Nuclears it is dangerous to America, but if America arms itself with Nuclears then the world is safe? All you people are after are Muslims and all America is done is made people hate Muslims and especially Pakistanis for some reason. Also Abraham Lincoln stated that " America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves" so that should show that the Talibans are not a threat to America, but America itself is a threat to America.
