Bill Clinton did not have a happy childhood. He was poor, overweight, lived in "the wrong part of town," and had a chaotic family life. He dearly loved his mother and admired her as a strong and caring woman, but sadly, she tended to marry or date men with substance abuse problems, as well as men who beat her (and sometimes beat him). This influenced Bill Clinton to want to be a good husband and father and never raise a hand to his wife nor beat his kids. Whether or not you like Bill Clinton personally, and despite his acknowledged womanizing problems as an adult, by all accounts, he has deep respect for his wife and daughter and has never been abusive to either of them. Further, being raised in a home with an alcoholic step-dad made him determined to only drink occasionally, if at all. By all accounts, Bill Clinton has kept that promise and is not very much of a drinker.
