Hi, Is your blinker actually flashing on and off? If not it may be your hazard switch. I had to replace mine.
the clicking sound is the blinker. when you signal to turn with your blinker the light flashes and makes a clicking sound.
what clicking noise in the dash of 1997 mercury marquis
change the flasher
i have run into to this before and it was the 4 way flasher switch was bad
Apparantly this is covered under a recall.
replace hazard switch
when you flip your blinker on, a relay in the circuit is activated which turns the light on and off. also, the front blinker and rear blinker usually alternate in turning off and on, so when the back is on, the front will be off, and reverse.. that's why when a bulb is out, the clicking sound in the vehicle goes faster than when both are in working order.
Are you talking about the clicking that is heard in the cabin when the turn signal is blinking? That is just an auditory reminder that your blinker is on to hopefully prevent you from leaving it on as you drive down the highway.
The hazzard light switch on the dash to the right of the speedometer is also the turn signal flasher. This is a common part to fail if intermittant turn signal operation. - TechJK -----------------------------
IF your blinkers are clicking extremely loudly then try changing the relay. The relay is what is responsible for the light bulb going off and on and is were the sound of the clicking is coming from. A relay is just a mechanical electrical switch that flicks the power on and off to make the blinker blink
