'Hepatic Profile' is a term used to describe a blood workup that tests your Liver enzymes. Liver enzymes can suggest to Physicians a large quantity of possible medical problems. They are even used to regulate drug side effects in patients already on medications for other things.
Most Common reason for doing such a workup is to test for side effects of a different issue. A person with Celiac Sprue for instance, will have elevated live enzymes even though the ailment is related to a deficient or absent enzyme and is associated with the large intestines. It is a very common and rutine test in the search for answers to largely nonfatal illnesses.
