Blue smoke usually indicates that oil is getting into the combustion chamber. If the engine is a 2-stroke where a gas/oil mixture is used, the oil separates when not in use and the mix needs to be "shaken" before starting the engine (or the oil ratio is higher than recommended). If the engine is 4-stroke, it is likely that the valve seals are leaking.
