Most Border Collies do make outstanding sheep dogs, if they are trained properly. They do so because it's in their instinct from their ancestors on the border between Scotland and England. :)
NO! Border collies have endless energy and must be constantly mentally and physically stimulated. They are best, of course, where they can herd sheep, as they were bred to do.
I think its because they were bred to be sheep dogs and so they are designed for that stuff.

border collies are clever, responsive dogs that respond well to training, that is why the are the best sheep herding dogs, plus there IMMENSE speed!!!!!!!!!! Border Collies were bred to herd flocks. They need training to know when, where, and who they are allowed to herd. It is their natural want and need to herd, and they will even herd your kids around the park if you let them, but that should not be allowed. There should be specific training to keep the dog from nipping the kids on the feet if they are playing together and the dog begins to herd one child or another.
border collies are part springer spaniel...they are related, but have very different temperments. Border collies are herding dogs, spaniels are hunting dogs.
Herding Dogs are used as sheepdogs. Different countries use different breeds but some of them are Collies, German shepherds and Old English sheepdogs. The herding instinct is bred into them - pups will try to herd anything they can, including ducks! However they still need extensive training.
Water, like all dogs.
The most prominent use on farms is as sheep dogs. Though they are possibly the most intelligent and trainable dogs and so have other uses such as rodent control and cattle herding.
dogs like border collies are a common example of mans best-friend but as other dogs it is not in there nature to hunt other animals but a border collie is sometimes used for hunting
