Check fuse Check power to and through stop light switch at the upper end of brake pedal Check bulbs - they are dual filamented with the smaller being for brake lights Check power and ground at the sockets Check for corrosion at sockets Turn signals work? If so could be a problem in steering column

are brake lights staying on or is brake in the dash on ?
yes they have brake lights and you probably have a bad brake light switch which is on top of the brake pedal under the dash.
check the brake light switch that is on top of your brake pedal under the dash, could be out of adjustment or bad.
parking brake, push it down a touch

Before you take the Chevy in for a diagnostic test, you can look at the fuse box and see if the fuse is burnt for the brake lights. If so, go to some place like AutoZone or O'Reilly's and sometimes someone there will even help you find and replace a fuse. Also, it would be odd if both brake light bulbs burned out at the same time, but not impossible. \
