Brake Lights NOT WORKING

There could be several causes, some of which include:

  • The fuse [or circuit breaker] which protects the circuit is "blown," thus "opening" the circuit, preventing the flow of electricity.
  • The brake light switch is not properly installed, or adjusted properly.
  • There is a "bad" electrical connection, anywhere within the brake light circuit. This could include: corrosion inside of one or more of the wiring harness connectors, or corrosion where ground wires are screwed to the body sheet metal [the body sheet metal is grounded to the battery negative terminal, and thus acts to return current flow to the battery].
  • One or more of the conductors has been broken or cut, thus "opening" the circuit, just like turning off a switch.

There probably other reasons which do not come to my mind at this point. Good luck.

Your brakes lights stay on not all the time what do you do.it is a Chevy truck 2002?

Under the brake pedal is a brake light switch that when you press the pedal it hits it and makes your lights come on..sometimes when they get weak the pedal depresses them simply from the weight of the pedal and they stay on..Have a friend get inside the truck and pull UP on the brake pedal as you look at the lights..if the brake lights go off when they pull up on it..then it is that switch under the brake pedal
